Chong Boon Market & Food Centre opened in 1979 at Blk 453A Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10, as part of Chong Boon — one of six neighbourhoods that make up Ang Mo Kio, itself freshly built out of former kampongs, vegetable farms, and rubber plantations through the 1970s. The market leans heavily toward the wet-market side, with 184 market stalls dwarfing its 38 cooked food stalls. One of those, Kwai Luck Mee Siam, has spent 40 years perfecting a single dish — a testament to the kind of quiet, long-running craft this neighbourhood market is known for.
Built in 1979 as Ang Mo Kio New Town took shape, this market is heavily weighted toward shopping — 184 market stalls against just 38 food stalls.
