Pek Kio is Hokkien for "White Bridge", named after a painted wooden bridge that once crossed a canal here. The land has lived many lives: mangrove swamp, nutmeg plantation, and then — somehow — Farrer Park Aerodrome, Singapore's very first civilian airstrip, where colonial mail planes took off in the 1930s. Stand at the right stall in Pek Kio Market today and you are, quite literally, eating where aeroplanes once taxied. The market opened in 1981 and hasn't changed much since: around 50 stalls, many run by second- or third-generation families.
Pek Kio is Hokkien for "White Bridge". This Novena-Balestier corner was once Singapore's first civilian airstrip — now it's home to a well-loved hawker centre.

Tried their beancurd egg tart - super unique! The filling is silky smooth like tau huay, lighter than the usual egg tart but still fragrant. The crust is buttery and crumbly, goes really well with the soft beancurd inside. Very special twist on a classic, worth trying at least once!
